Hebron Wastewater Department

ABOUT US

The Hebron Wastewater Treatment Plant is responsible for treating wastewater from the town so it can be safely returned to the environment. Originally built in 1969 it has had many upgrades throughout the years. The plant screens inorganic debris at the headworks. Then the wastewater is pumped to three Spiragesters for Primary Treatment. The effluent is then pumped to a Trickling Filter for Biological Treatment, an Intermediate Clarifier settles solids from the Trickling Filter. The treated effluent is then pumped to the top of two Bio-towers for Ammonia removal and into one of three final Clarifiers. Before being released into the environment we disinfect the final water with ultraviolet light (UV) to destroy any harmful bacteria.

The Hebron Wastewater Treatment Plant is a Class II Trickling Filter plant rated at .52 MGD (520,000 gallons per day). We are regulated by the EPA and the Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM) and has two operators that are state certified. Our laboratory tests for potential pollutants to make sure they are well below the limits set by the EPA and IDEM.

The town has approximately 17.5 miles of wastewater collection system and five lift stations. The oldest section dates to the 60’s and the majority of the collection system is vitrified clay pipe.
