Annual Leaf Pick-up

The Street Department collects leaves within town limits during the fall and spring.

The schedule for the fall pick-up starts on October 1st and ends on November 30th Weather permitting

The schedule for the spring pick-up is every Monday in both April and May

We start at one end of town North or South and work our way up and down every street we find leave piles. We go through the entire town once and then start again. Large volumes of leaves, unforeseen mechanical breakdown or inclement weather may delay us getting to your area, but we will get there.

HELPFUL GUIDELINES TO HELP EVERYONE GET THEIR LEAVES PICKED-UP

  • Residents should have their leaves at the curb no later than 8:00am
  • Please don’t place your leaves near your mailbox, power poles or any obstruction, we will not pick them up
  • Please don’t pile your leaves in the roadway, if a rain storm happens before we can pick them up it can clog the storm water system and cause flooding. Town Ordinance Sec. 70-35 (d) states “No lawn/garden waste shall be deposited upon or disposed upon or disposed of by any resident on the town’s property, streets, or driveways within the town”
  • A long narrow row along the street on the grass will make it easier for us to pick up your leaves and get to your neighbors
  • Please don’t make your rows too high, two (2) feet is the maximum that our equipment can handle
  • Don’t park a vehicle near your leaf row, we will not pick it up
  • We will not pick up mixed leaf piles (No grass clippings, no branches, no yard waste (brush, trimmings, corn stalks, vines) Please just leaves

GRASS CLIPPINGS

Grass clippings can be bagged in up to four (4) 15-gallon kitchen garbage bags and placed with your normal trash pickup. Better yet use a mulching mower and leave the clippings on your lawn. According to the Scotts Company website, grass clippings contain the same beneficial nutrients (like nitrogen and potassium) as lawn food. Overall, grass clippings can provide a portion of the annual nutrient requirement for your lawn. It also keeps your clippings out of the landfill

YARD WASTE

We do not pick-up yard waste (Plants, corn stalks, vines, brush) only leaves. Yard waste can be brought to the PORTER COUNTY RECYCLING & WASTE REDUCTION Boone Grove Compost Site. Located at 546 South 400 West. They also accept grass clippings. Check their website at www.portercountyrecycling.org for more information.
